This time last year I was in Paris, celebrating Halloween at Disneyland with lots of cute costumes and parades. Sadly, we can’t all be doing that this year, so instead I decided to come up with a list of some of my favourite things to do during October that get me into the Halloween spirit, and for you to try yourselves.
Get Your Costume Sorted
First things first, you need to get your costume sorted. If you’re stuck I recently wrote a post on my top 10 Halloween Costume Ideas for this year. I always like to go for something that has at least some sort of spooky element for Halloween. I planned mine at the end of September but I’ve still not quite got everything I need so plan ahead.
Go Pumpkin Picking and/or Carving
The halloween spirit has really hit me this year, and I wanted to do many things throughout the month to celebrate. I haven’t found a pumpkin patch yet but as soon as I found the pumpkins in Asda, I couldn’t resist to take one home to carve it. I actually wasn’t very well at the time, so I took a break from screens and social media, put on an autumn playlist and found it very relaxing. I definitely want to do some more before the month is up.
Go For A Walk In The Woods
We have a nearby woodlands where I live, and we often take my boyfriend’s dog for a walk there. However, there’s something a lot more relaxing about it in the autumn months. Crunchy leaves, pinecones on the floor and the occasional rain really puts me in the autumnal spirit. It’s always quiet, and we often come away from it feeling really productive. Even when it’s raining it just makes me want to take a thermal of coffee, and go exploring.
Give Your House A Halloween Makeover
You may be one of those people that sees Halloween decor as all-year-round decor, which means this time of year is perfect to go out and treat yourself to some new goodies, particularly if you’ve just moved out or want to redecorate. However, if you’re not, it can also just be fun to go crazy and mix things up for the month. I really enjoy walking past houses that are clearly in the halloween spirit, and I personally find the decorating process particularly enjoyable.
Get A Spooky Tattoo
This year Friday 13th falls in the October month, so it’s a perfect time to get a creepy themed tattoo. A lot of shops will do Friday 13th events which look like a lot of fun, so if it’s something you’re in to maybe check out your local area (research the shop first). I see a lot of my favourite artists on my Instagram feed post Halloween flash for special offers too.
Visit A Halloween Themed Attraction
From the London Dungeons to a zombie escape room, there are lots of horror themed places for you to visit and scare yourselves with this month. Watch the latest horror in the cinema, go on the Saw ride at Thorpe park, or visit Alton Towers for a scare maze. You could also even visit local caves like Wookey Hole if you don’t want anything too scary. Oh, and don’t forget the zombie walks.
Bake Some Tasty Halloween Treats
I created a Fall Pinterest Board this month to keep me inspired, and to save all of the lovely images that kept grabbing my attention. Pinterest is flooded with amazing treat ideas and DIYs all of the time, but the Halloween ones are definitely my favourite. I saved a lot of food and drink related pins that look super cute to recreate during the month, including some that are even vegan.
Murder Mystery Pub Crawl, Ghost Hunting and Gigs
Don’t forget to check out what’s going on in your local area! From pantomimes, to club nights, Halloween is the perfect reason for businesses to do special nights that can be a lot of fun. I work at a local pub/venue, and we’re doing a halloween weekend with two gigs that have amazing lineups, or possibly your favourite band is headlining a Halloween special? I know Our Hollow, Our Home are doing one this year, and Bring Me The Horizon have done one before. Working at the pub also means that we got word of a murder mystery pub crawl that we’re most likely going to take part in, and I also believe that some people are going to be doing a ghost hunt. Me and some friends are also planning on going to visit the recently opened Harry Potter themed bar in Exeter this month.
Movie Night In
Everyone loves a movie night, and I can’t think of a better time to have one than during Halloween. Put the fire on, get some blankets and order in that pizza. You can make pumpkin spiced coffees, or just a hot chocolate with lots of cream and marshmallows, and get in all of those halloween special treats that hit the shelves during October. My best friend and I used to do this when we were really into horrors, but not so much anymore. However, I have been really loving revisiting spooky movies this month from The Addams Family to Child’s Play. I’ll soon be posting a list of my favourite Halloween movies so stay tuned for that!
I hope you enjoyed this post and it gave you some inspiration to get in the spooky spirit this month.
What’s your favourite thing to do for this holiday? April.
